This 350 plus year old town along the Nassau/Suffolk County border on a scenic stretch of Long Island Sound coast line, Huntington, contains more historic sites than any other community on Long Island. The "Heritage Trail" is a historic corridor that commemorates George Washington's 100 mile horse drawn carriage tour he took in 1790 to thank the residence of Long Island who had assisted in the Revolutionary cause.
Huntington Township combines the best of both worlds. Hamptonesque lifestyles include sailing, water sports, golf, tennis and horse trails... Waterfront homes, beach community bungalows and charming "village oldies" are usually available for sale, as well as the more traditional style home. And then there is "Main Street" with fabulous destination restaurants and shopping. It's like a slice of Manhattan with a lot more sky. We also have rentals and condo/co-ops available on the market with out the Manhattan price tag. The nightlife might not be as diverse as the city, but there is something for everyone. Chesterfields is a local jazz venue. The Heckscher Museum has dynamic exhibits of renowned noted artists as well as local artist work. There are numerous galleries, a broadway style theater, as well as stores for fine clothing, jewelry, antiques and gifts. The Cinema Arts Center hosts blockbuster movies, indy and foreign films as well as instigating the exchange of ideas by inviting directors and other film industry people to showcase in our community.
Yet there is still a bohemian edge to this place, which is one of the reasons why a lot of people gravitate here. It is not completely polished and we like it like that. Hiking trails, clam shacks and vegetable stands, a farmers market from May till October, public parks, fishing party boats and of course the beaches...you just know its summer when you see a local kid walking to the harbor with a fishing pole in his hand.
About one hour commute to the city is what most of the people who scout for homes with me hope for, and the Long Island Rail Road has delivered an "on or close to schedule" promise of that.
There are villages within the township of Huntington, each with their own individual personality. Click on THE NEIGHBORHOODS and THINGS TO DO links at the top of the page.
